Behold the radiant beauty of the St. Louis Gold water lily. Developed in 1956 by George Pring, this stunning aquatic plant boasts luminous, star-shaped yellow blooms that will transform any pond into a captivating display. Its vibrant color and robust growth make it a perfect addition to your Indian garden.
Care Instructions for St. Louis Gold:
The St. Louis Gold thrives in warm, sunny conditions, ideal for Indian climates. Here’s what it needs:
Sunlight: Minimum 5 hours of direct, unfiltered sunlight daily. This is a 100% outdoor plant.
Soil: Use any top soil without cocopeat. Clayey soil is most suitable as it retains moisture.
Detailed planting & care guidelines are included with the plant. Please refer to the knowledge base & FAQ’s for more details.
Water: Use potable water, such as tap or borewell water. Avoid hard water.
Water Temperature: A pond with slightly acidic to neutral water (pH 6.5-7.5) and rich, fertile soil is ideal. Water temperatures between 70°F and 85°F (21°C and 29°C) are perfect for vigorous growth and abundant blooming.
Water Quality: Clean, clear water is crucial. Regularly monitor water levels and replenish as needed, particularly during hot weather.
Pot/Container: A minimum 24-inch diameter and 15-18 inch high pot or container made from fiber, plastic, or concrete is recommended. These materials help retain heat which aids the plant’s growth.
Pest and Disease Control: Keep an eye out for common water lily pests like aphids or snails. These can be treated with appropriate organic or chemical controls, following manufacturer guidelines. Regularly inspect the leaves for signs of disease and take action as needed.
Winter Dormancy: In colder Indian regions, the St. Louis Gold may enter a period of dormancy during winter. Reduce watering and fertilization during this time.
Pruning: Remove any dead or decaying leaves to maintain the plant's health and aesthetic appeal.
Unique Selling Points:
Vibrant Yellow Blooms: The intensely yellow, star-shaped flowers are exceptionally striking.
Robust Growth: The St. Louis Gold is a vigorous grower, quickly establishing itself.
Ideal for Indian Conditions: Thrives in the heat and sunlight prevalent in most regions of India.
Easy to Maintain: Suitable for both seasoned gardeners and beginners.
